Leads are organizations or contacts that can potentially be your customers. Typically you have very little information about them, single point of contact and the data you have is un-qualified. There is no history of any kind of transactions like selling, with Leads.
As the relationship with the prospects (leads) grow, there can be multiple stages of qualification before they are converted into an account (prospective customer/customer).
Leads can be collected from various sources; from the web – Web-to-Lead, marketing activities like Campaigns, databases collected from external vendors and the like.
